Skinned Milk, 2023

Visually, the tiled floor in the picture is indistinguishable from a normal floor. However, it is a second floor installed on top of the original floor of the exhibition space. I did not cement the tiles into place; instead, a layer of carpet stoppers keeps them in position. The tiles are therefore stable and don’t slip, but break under viewers as they walk through the room.

The windows were left open day and night and the radiator was turned off. The broken tiles were not replaced during the exhibition.

What I personally got out of this was a decelerating sensation while walking through the space. Although I knew it was possible to walk normally, I kept walking hesitantly over the slightly loose ground.
