Site-specific sound recording in a locked room

The work consists of a site-specific recording hidden in a locked room. I have previously shown it as a recording of a person crying in the room next to the exhibition space, so that it sounds as if someone is crying next door.

The work has to be translated into the space it is presented in. In a domestic space, for example, I would install a recording of a couple having a loud argument next door.

I’m interested in how sound influences a space on a social level, and what engagement it triggers in a viewer.

Note: there is no recording of this work here, since I consider the affect created by the sound to be the medium of the work.
